The Carer Assistance Program (CAP) is a dedicated free counselling service for foster and kinship carers in Queensland.

Our qualified counsellors provide a safe, supportive and confidential space for carers to talk through life’s challenges. This short-term intervention service offers caring, personalised support when you need someone to talk to. There is no set number of sessions you can access as support is guided by your individual needs and circumstances. Sessions are available by phone or virtually through Microsoft Teams.

Through CAP, carers can access therapeutic support for a range of issues such as:

  • Grief and loss

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Compassion fatigue

  • Parental stress

  • Relationship issues and communication breakdowns.

Carers:

It’s a safe place to share, and I have been given some very valuable tools. A place where I am listened to and feel validated. Excellent advice thank you.

I feel that it is so important for carers to be able to access a counselling service at no cost and for unlimited sessions. I also feel that it is so much better to be able to access counselling without needing to go to a GP and get a mental health referral.

Carer Agencies:

We have received positive feedback directly from our Carer so far and this Carer has recommended other Carers be referred. We are very excited about this service and think it has been so helpful already that our Carer could get in so quickly to receive the support when they needed it.

…. it's important the service understands the system. The feedback from our Carer is that they were so thankful they did not have to explain any of the Child Safety processes.
