Angel Identity - Giving Children an Identity
Angel Identity is a Partnership between Queensland Foster and Kinship Care and Althea Projects Townsville following an upsetting incident when a group of professionals including staff from QFKC, Althea (Shared Family Care) and Child Safety visited the unmarked grave of a young person in North Queensland.
Whilst travelling from a Foster Care forum in North Queensland this group of professionals stopped to visit the resting place of a young person that had recently passed away. He had been known to two of the group, his resting place was a pile of earth, and his headstone was a stubby cooler with a can of Jim Beam in it, some decaying flowers and a little green frog.
There was no marker on the grave to identify who he was, when he was born or when God had called him home. In death this young person had no identity.
None of the group was able to walk away from this ... so began the journey to have a headstone placed on this young person’s resting place.
Angel Identity was established to help families honour the memory of a child in care who has passed away.
More often than not, following such tragedy, birth families do not have the financial ability to provide a physical and permanent memorial by way of headstones and plaques for their children.
Through Queensland Foster and Kinship Care (QFKC), Angel Identity seeks to ensure that these families have what they need and more importantly, ensure the dignity of the child or young person is maintained.
Angel Identity has evolved from not only a fund that preserves dignity of children and young people who sadly passed away but also through assisting grieving family members in various ways and may also assist families including carer families with other identified needs.
